  • Aberdour Castle and Garden

    Aberdour Castle served as a residence for three noble families over a period of 500 years: the Mortimers, the Randolphs and the Douglases. The present complex of roofed buildings and ruined structures perfectly illustrates how a medieval castle could be extended and modified over time. On the grounds there are also walled and terraced gardens and parkland. Features of interest include an attractive beehive-shaped dovecot.

  • Anstruther Lifeboat Station

    Anstruther Lifeboat Station is one of the few RNLI "explorer" stations; a station available to the public to visit for most of the year. Displays and films illustrate the history and work of the RNLI and there's a hands-on experience for the children.     In 1993, Burntisland Community Council established the Burntisland Heritage Group and in 1998 the Community Council decided to formalise the structure of the group, and Burntisland Heritage Trust was established. Burntisland Heritage Trust are always on the lookout for old Burntisland photos - in particular interesting photos from family archives, which might be of workplaces, buildings, streets, shops, sports, people, etc.

  • City of St Andrews Pipe Band

    The City of St Andrews Pipe Band provides tuition in piping and drumming (snare, tenor and bass) for all ages. New members are always welcome whenever it is possible to accommodate them.     The magnificent and ancient Culross Abbey has been a religious site for more than 1500 years and is one of the oldest Christian Sits in Scotland. The building has many significant historical features and is worthy of a visit as part of a day out. The Abbey is open to the public every day from 9:30am until 5:00pm (8:00pm from May until September). The Abbey also has a tea room and holds a craft group every Wednesday between 11:00am and 2:00pm.

    Fife Family History Society, which was formed in 1989 aims to join together people with an interest in the research of their Fife ancestors. A new Fife Family History Research Room is now available within Cupar Library. See website for opening times.     This volunteer-run museum is well worth a visit. You are assured of a friendly welcome, and the collections cover a wide range of objects, providing something to interest every visitor. The core buildings include the original tolbooth of the burgh, and a row of weavers' cottages. At the back of the museum, beside the Ceres Burn, is a terraced garden with a footbridge to the public car park. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10.30 to 4.30 (last entry 3.45). Admission FREE.

    My name is Fergus Cook. I offer personal walking tours of St Andrews and surrounding countryside, which are designed around the needs of clients and may cover history, contemporary life, culture in the town, natural history and landscape history or any other aspect of life around St Andrews. Tours can be any length depending on requirements. The cost is £50 per hour for one or two people, £30 per person for three to six people and £200 for seven people or more.
